How accelerators work in Saudi Arabia
Saudi accelerators come in four kinds. Government: CODE, the Center of Digital Entrepreneurship of MCIT (230 programmes delivered, 2,200 startups benefited); The Garage, the Riyadh startup district launched at LEAP 2022 by MCIT, the Saudi Federation for Cybersecurity, Programming and Drones and KACST (950+ tech startups graduated); SDAIA's GAIA generative-AI accelerator; the GEA Entertainment Accelerator; MEWA's EWAx environment accelerator; NEOM Level Up for game studios with DigiPen; and the Newlab Riyadh Mining Innovation Studio with NIDLP, the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, Maaden, ESNAD and SGS. University: TAQADAM (KAUST and Saudi Awwal Bank, 290+ startups backed since 2016), KAUST ScaleX (soft landing for global scale-ups) and the Princess Nourah University startup accelerator. Corporate: inspireU by stc (the Kingdom's first ICT accelerator, 130+ startups since 2015), impactU by stc and Finspire (Saudi National Bank with Dhahran Techno Valley). Investor-run: the Sanabil Accelerator in two versions — by 500 Global and by Orbit Ventures — Antler MENAP, the Falak Flagship Program (with NTDP), the venture studio VMS and Flat6Labs Riyadh, whose Saudi programmes are marked not active.
Money: TAQADAM pays up to $140K in non-dilutive grants ($40K base grant plus up to $100K follow-on for top teams). Antler MENAP invests $180,000 via SAFE for 11% with up to $320,000 in uncapped follow-on. The Sanabil Accelerator by Orbit invests $80,000–100,000 in every startup of its 4-month batches; the Sanabil Accelerator by 500 Global invests $100,000+ and charges a $35,000 programme fee for phase one. Falak's Flagship Program provides up to SAR 375,000 of direct funding plus a soft landing into Saudi Arabia (entity establishment, MISA registration). SDAIA's GAIA Program came with financial grants totalling SAR 150,000 from NTDP. Finspire offered a development budget of up to SAR 100,000 per venture (a ceiling, not an entitlement) and in-kind support valued at up to SAR 100,000. Flat6Labs Riyadh's offer was SAR 500K in cash seed funding and SAR 2,400,000 in follow-on. inspireU gives grants in its General track and funding in the invitation-only Advanced track (amounts not published); CODE, The Garage, KAUST ScaleX, GEA and EWAx fund no cash — workspace, labs, licences, mentoring and investor access instead.
Equity and terms: TAQADAM's grants are non-dilutive; GEA is free to participate with no direct funding; KAUST ScaleX is in-kind and free to apply. Antler takes about 11% for its $180,000 SAFE, Finspire a minority stake via SAFE capped at 5%, the two Sanabil Accelerators and Flat6Labs an equity stake. Falak states the funding but not the stake; CODE, The Garage, inspireU, SDAIA and NEOM publish no equity terms. 500 Global's $35,000 programme fee is the only participation fee on the map; Orbit states no participation fees.
Who qualifies — and where you have to be: most Saudi programmes expect you in the Kingdom. The Sanabil Accelerator by Orbit wants founders in Riyadh for weeks 1–4 and 8–12 with every founder at every session; 500 Global's is a 12-week programme in Riyadh for tech startups with an MVP and early traction. Finspire required founders to operate and scale from Saudi Arabia (no remote-only participation, programme centred in Dhahran), Flat6Labs residence in a Saudi city, GEA a Saudi commercial registration, NEOM Level Up Saudi-based game teams. TAQADAM takes Saudi or international startups with 2+ founders and a plan to expand to KSA within a year; Falak core-AI companies that are Saudi-based or targeting the Saudi market; Antler founders from pre-idea to pre-seed with MENAP relevance; KAUST ScaleX established scale-ups (Series B or equivalent, 2+ years) without an existing HQ in Saudi Arabia; The Garage and VMS both Saudi and international founders; SDAIA local and international data and AI startups.
